Project Type

Play

Date

October 2011

Location

Raleigh, North Carolina

Playwright

Brian Friel

This three-hander by Brian Friel is about a young woman's experience living with blindness and the unexpected consequences when she gets a second chance at sight. Ostensibly about Molly's blindness, the play reveals the blindspots in her husband and the doctor who treats her blindness. I staged to play to emphasize the disconnection between the characters, placing the actors out of each other's lines of sight but layered within the scene from the audience's point of view. The set was abstract and gauzy, representing the dim indistinctness of Molly's vision.
